Something I’m planning on trying…

I have seriously been considering starting a web-comic. I don’t really have an ideas for content so what I might try is just every once in a while posting something I’ve been working on and seeing where it goes from there. We shall see!

Fighting for Passion

Stop making people feel bad for liking things that make them happy.

I read this today on a friend’s facebook post. For me it seems to hit so very close to home. This past fall I made the decision to re-enter my past major in college.  Dance Performance.  Ever since doing that, I have had to defend that decision to almost everyone I speak to about it. Yes I am over weight, yes I am much older than the typical dancer and I’m just entering the field, yes it’s a difficult field to enter into and even less lucrative.

So what? I love this.  I want this. Every single day I fight a battle with myself just to go to class – I run the previously mentioned issues through my mind, in addition to ridicule from the outside world, and my personal fear that I will fail.  I am too fat, I am too old, I am too weak, I have too far to go. I don’t care.

I want this. Nothing else has made me feel this happy I know this is what I am supposed to do. Recently I was cast as a understudy in a show that my school is currently performing, I get the privilege to dance a couple of pieces and I can *honestly* say that nothing compares to the feel I get when I am performing in front of an audience and those lights hit me. Nothing.

I know that I have a handicap in comparison to my peers, so I have begun to do extra training and cross training on my own. I refuse to move on to grad school in poor shape and unable to keep up with my peers! Nothing worth it is easy and this is no exception. That is why I know this is where I am supposed to be.

Me

Juicy-Fruit!

I LOVE pears.

Look what they gots:

70-100 Calories, 190mg sodium, 26mg carbohydrates, 6g fiber, 16g sugar, 1g protein, 10%dv Vitamin C, and 2%dv Calcium!

ANNND! They are so sweet and juicy.  What’s super great is that they serve them in the fresh fruit section of the cafeteria at my work with every meal!  They are also very pretty.

The Ancient Greeks used pears to treat nausea.

Pears grow on almost every continent.  (An avocado is a pear.)

Try THIS recipe on for size… mmm!

Secret, secret…

So, I don’t know how many of you know this or not, but I’ve been trying off an on over the past two years to be able to commit to the local roller derby team, (the A’Salt Creek Roller Girls).  Every time I try, for some reason my work was “only teasing” about being able to let me have the practice nights off.

Exitingly enough, I’ve talked one of my friends, who happened to be the assistant coach for our team at one time, into starting her own team.  Her and I have recruited almost enough members for a full roster and are now looking for sponsors.  I’m so super stoked!

My predicament: My derby name was going to be Tackle-box, because it was what everyone called me since I was covered in piercings, and also because no-one else on the league had chosen it.  Unfortunatly, I can’t really use that name anymore, because I took most of the metal out.

I think that y’all should post what you think would be a good derby name for me, as I’m having a terrible time finding one.  Derby names are generally a double entendre, have something to do with 40’s pin-up, and are menacing.  I’d also like it to be kind of personal.  There is a national roster that I can check the name against once someone lets me know what they think and we can go from there.  I’m just having a pretty hard time coming up with something that fits the criteria and that I like

Thanks in advance for your help!

Well… it’s in my blood!

I’ve been reading up on and researching the process of making cheese.

So… as soon as I have the proper equipment (mostly canning supplies) I am going to start by making my own buttermilk.

I’ll keep you updated!

It’d be better if I had my own moo-cow… but I don’t.

Time to get this one out of the way!

ShoeDazzle.

My mom suggested weeks ago that this would make an excellent topic.  And she’s right! I should blog about it! However, I’ve just been uncertain on how to do it!

Here goes!

I first heard of ShoeDazzle months and months ago, from a patron when I used bartender.  She always had the greatest shoes.  When I finally asked her what that was all about she told me “Shoedazzle.com! It’s kind of like a shoe of the month club, and it’s awesome!” Right on! So recently I’ve been seeing TV commercials for it, hearing all of my friends talk about it, and even seeing it in the side advertisments of many of the websites that I visit. So… I investigated, like any good ginger would!

I had no idea it was the brain child of Kim Kardashian.  What do ya know? She’s cute, and a little bit business savvy.  Neat!

It’s great.  You go to the website.  You take a fun little quiz.  They make you your own personal show room based on your answers.  Whatever you want is $39.95.  SPLENDID!

You go now.  =)

Record Keeping

I’m a fan of journaling.  Mostly dream journaling (which my mother got me into a few months ago).  But, I really do like all kinds.  I find myself better motivated to journal if I have something cool to write in, not just a college ruled, five star, spiral notebook.

It’s hard to find a website on the subject that isn’t totally goofy, so I’ll just tell you what I do.

I wake up and immediatley grab my journal (which is why it’s best to keep the journal and a pen close to your bed). I start by logging the date so I can go back and see what I was dreaming when.  Next I record my dream to the best of my recollection.  I get down the basics, then, if I have to I go back in and embellish the details. After this, I write down what kind of emotions I’m feeling, colors I saw, things I heard, or anything out of the ordinary. Then, I write down anything I can think of that happened recently that might have had an effect on my dream.

That’s it.  Pretty basic.  You should try it!

Sweet Dreams!

Less Than Three S-J-T

To cringe, or not to cringe!???

Okay.  I admitt it.  I wax my eyebrows.

I can’t not.  It’s sort of like an addiction, and it hurts sooo good.  However, I’ve never tried to do it on my own.  I barely have the moxie to go get it done at the salon! (You like that? Moxie? Yeah… I learned that from watching my brother in a performance of Lost In Yonkers yesterday. =^.^=)

So, the purpose of this article is to decide whether or not it’s better to get them done by a professional, or do them at home.

At the salon, it usually costs between $10 and $20. (But I won’t spend more than $12…)  I like going to the salon because I can trust that the person ripping the little hairs out of my flesh knows what she’s doing, and can see what she’s doing in order to get a nice shape. Here, it never usually takes more than about ten minutes, tops.

At home, I’d be afraid to screw it all up, because I wouldn’t exactly be able to see what I’m doing, plus… inflicting pain on myself is a little different than having it inflicted on me. Also, an at-home kit costs between $25 and $100, but you get more than one use out of those!  It’s a little more time consuming to do it yourself.  It looks to average to be about a twenty minute process.

This is cool!  It’s a step-by-step guide to brow shaping!

Also, I think it would be neat to find a place that can do threading! I’d just once like to try it out!

Something else that is on my list to try (and blog about) is getting my eyelashes dyed.  I’m curious, and there’s a little salon down the street from my work that does it for about $20.

We shall see! Let me know what your opinion on waxing is!
