Hot Air Balloons

Those guys are fun.  I really want to go to a festival, and would LOVE to go on a ride, but I somehow miss the local festivities every year.

They make me happy in my guts, I think it’s because at the end of the BBC shows that I used to watch with my dad as a kid, there was a hot air balloon.  I dunno.  (This is also the root of my love for Oatmeal Cream Pies.)

It seems like these festivals are pretty popular, there is one almost anywhere you’d want to go.  Next year I want to plan to be able to go to the one locally and maybe even be able to travel somewhere for one as well!

Here’s to hoping I’ll be floating!

Why not blog?

I mean, really…

I’ll be working twelve hour shifts the next two days sitting at the operators desk.  Ugh.  I don’t do anything but answer phones.  I was not made for this.  Hopefully it will give me the opportunity to think up something super great!  If not… the next 20ish hours are going to be a complete and total waste!

Impossile or amazing?

Here’s what I’m thinking: I have a lot of attraction to three different areas that have very distinct styles.

1.) My celtic heritage.

2.) The 1940’s – 1950’s pin-up look.

3.) The Geisha. (Aside from the whole status f*ck thing…)

I am going to FIND a way to combine these three things into something glorius.  It will be my new project.  However, what this means is that I am going to have to spend a good deal of my time educating myself on what it means to be each of these things.

Now… Which to choose first? I don’t know if I am going to study it all in a jumbled mix or if I am going to study each element separatley.  Oooo! This could get interesting!  I’m excited, are you?

Stay tuned, because I will be updating my progress and findings in the days to come!

The science of bath-time…

image

I’m a curious person, I always have a bunch of questions to ask about any given subject.  Which led me to laying in my bathtub wondering things like the age-old “why does the water make my fingers wrinkle?” among others… so I did some research and this is what I found:

Q: How much water does the average bathtub hold?
A: Approximately 55-65 gallons.  My fish tank is bigger than that!  I could go swimming!

Q: How does soap get me clean?
A: The molecules of the soap attatch to non-polar molecules such as oil, and polar molecules such as water simultaneously. Soap mixed with water will suspend the particles of yuck on your body and flush them away when rinsed.  The hydrocarbons dissovle the yuck and the ions make it water soluble. Soap is an emulsifier!
Fascinating!

Q: How long can the average person hold their breath under water?
A: 30-40 seconds.
Huh… seems low! I can hold mine around 90, and I know my lungs are bad!

Q: Where do rubber duckies come from?
A: Sesame street.
No! For reals! I’m sure that’s in a scientist book somewhere, and if it’s not, it should be because that’s the only answer I’ll accept!

Q: Why does water make my fingers and toes wrinkle?
A: Wrong! It’s not the water, it’s neurological evolution baby! You have to check out this link! Just do it…
That’s my favorite discovery!

It’s funny what you learn…

I’m having trouble getting behind this season’s fashion trends…

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

It’s dipping too far back to the 70’s (eek! The dreaded 90’s fashion is back up upon us.  *gag* I didn’t like that crap IN the 90’s!  Blast this being too fat for a whole entire fashion trend I’ve been waiting for to come back around!) for me, with all the oranges and wide bottom jeans (this inst Jr. High)… oh… and I’ve never like orange! (I think I included one picture with orange tights in it and I’d rather they were green.)

To be brutally honest, other than the Prada shoes, I’m not really in to anything I posted pictures of, it’s just what I could get behind the mostest.

Nature’s Bakery

This place is COOL!.

I found them in a search to find out who makes these wonderful Fig Bars that are in our vending machines at work.  Not the same Nature’s Bakery but still a great find! Anyway, those suckers are DELICIOUS!

Yummo.

I’m Having a Bad Day…

Actually a bad week… So… What to do, what to do?

I’m going to create a prescription for Bad Day Therapy!

First: Laughing Yoga.  Oh yes.  It’s real.  We do it in my office all the time.  All you have to do is get a group of people together and laugh for 60 seconds!  It may sound silly, but can you really hang?  I feel a little better already, just thinking about it.

Second: Food Therapy.  Not the  – bury myself in a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, type.  Just… cooking a yummy, home cooked meal.  That kind of thing works for me, I think because I’m a cooker and a feeder.  It also helps to make me feel accomplished when I can concoct something that everyone will enjoy.  =^.^= I suggest inventing a new mac and cheese recipe.

Third: Blog about being a sad panda and what you plan to do about it.

Fourth: Play-time with my dogs. I bet you know somone you can borrow a dog from if you don’t have one. 😉

Fifth: Take a nice, hot, for REALS bubble bath!

Sixth: Reflect on all the other things that could have gone wrong, or all the other people who are worse off than I am.

Facts About Sun Flowers

They’re tall and bright, striking and unusual, sunflowers are one of the most fun flowers to grow. Read on to discover some fascinating facts about these sunny, yellow flowers!

1. The name sunflower comes from its scientific name, Helianthus. Helios means sun and Anthos means flower.

2. Sunflowers have a long history. Remains of sunflower seeds found in archaeological digs in North America date them as nearly 3,000 years old.

3. There are lots of different varieties of sunflower, but the most common form is bright yellow, with dark brown centres filled with seeds.

4. Sunflowers are believed to have first originated in Europe in the early 1500s. The seeds, as well as the flowers themselves, were brought over by Spanish settlers returning to visit relatives.

5. As well as being grown for pleasure by members of the public, sunflowers are also grown commercially. Part of the commercial growing focuses on producing edible seeds and the other half is concerned with producing sunflower oil. Every mature flower is able to yield 40% of its weight as oil.

6. The Aztecs were fascinated by sunflowers, which often towered high above the ground. In fact, they even ended up worshipping sunflowers and used images of the distinctive flowers in their temples.

7. In the past, stems of sunflowers were used inside life jackets.

8. Sunflowers are well known as having the ability to grow very tall! As well as having a long stem, the heads of sunflowers can be equally huge.

9. In recent years, a form of low-pollen sunflower has been created. As well as helping to reduce the risk of asthma for pollen sufferers, it’s also helped extend the life of the flower itself.

10. New varieties of sunflowers are continuously being developed. Some of the newer forms are orange, tan or maroon in colour, or even have striped petals. Plus, they have greeny yellow centres instead of the distinctive brown one we all know and love.

And lastly, do you know where in America is known as The Sunflower State?
